Inglismaa eestlaste ajalehe Eesti Hääl toimetaja Toomas Ojasoo kaudu tuli meie lehele alljärgnev abipalve.
Briti ajaloolane Donald Murrey elab Stornoways, Shotimaal. Stornoway sadamast läksid läbi väikesed laevad Eesti põgenikega peale Teist maailmasõda. Donald Murrey on nendest laevadest teinud uurimistöö.
Hiljuti Donald avastas, et laev nimega “Irma” läks sealtpoolt läbi 1945. aastal. Nüüd tunneb ajaloolane huvi, kas keegi teab midagi sellest laevast.
Donald on ka varem küsinud abi Toomas Ojasoo käest ning tema kaudu ka Eesti Elu ja Vaba Eesti Sõna lugejatelt.
Hi Toomas
I meant to write to you ages ago, but unfortunately, I never got round to it. (To be honest, I started working on another book which is just about completed.) I’ve just obtained information about another boat, the ‘Irma’ which was also full of Estonian refugees and passed through the Caledonian Canal on 7 August 1945. It sailed to Madeira and onwards to the United States. Again, it was also reported on by accident.
It has made me wonder how many of these boats there were – and what happened to many of them.
Would it be possible to find out whether anyone in USA or Canada knows about the boat ‘Irma’ and who was on it?
Best
Donald
