Estonian diplomat Marten Kokk has been named the new head of the budget committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The committee is only one of three permanent committees of a total of 250 in the organization. Kokk will be the first Estonian to claim such a high position in the organization.
Estonia joined the organization in 2010 and Kokk was the first ambassador to the organization. Kokk, formerly the secretary general at the Foreign Ministry, will continue in the post of ambassador.
The 2013 budget for the 34-country organization was 354 million euros. Kokk will be in charge of next year’s budget and the plan of action for the 2015 to 2016 period.
