Europe’s very first gym located at an airport has opened at Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport in Estonia and it is free for passengers to use, writes The Lonely Planet.
Located at Gate 6 in the departures area, it provides a view of the runway, which will take the monotony out of pounding the treadmill.
Fitness club operator, My Fitness, opened the gym, which is equipped with a treadmill, elliptical trainer, rowing machine, exercise bicycle and a staircase trainer, all of which have a screen and are connected to the internet. There are also four specialist training machines for feet, shoulders, chest and back
exercises, plus a stretching area. The gym plans to roll out additional features over the coming months to help travellers get the most out of the experience, including a trainer to give advice and tips on the best exercises and nutrition tips for long flights.
Tallinn Airport is located only 3.5 km from the city centre and is already home to a children’s area with playhouse, sleep pods, a café where customers can prepare their own sandwiches, and a free library that is open 24 hours a day and operates purely on trust. It was ranked the third best airport in Europe and the ninth best in the world by airport guide ‘Sleeping in Airports’ in 2016.
