Prime Minister Jüri Ratas to Visit U.S.
Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas will visit the United States next week, where he will meet with the Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Justin Muzinich. The PM will also be the keynote speaker at the EANC Awards Gala in Washington on November 9 and will be attending the JBANC Baltic Conference ahead of the gala.

Estonian Youth Around the Globe Set Up Unifying Network
On October 17, 2019, the NGO Üleilmne Eesti Noorte Võrgustik or Global Estonian Youth Network was established in Tallinn. The network is a tangible result of the ESTO 2019 World Estonian Culture Days. Discussions regarding “Our Future” in Helsinki and Tartu this past summer revealed there are many topics that need to be addressed. The main goals of the Network are to represent and protect the rights and interests of Estonian youth living abroad, to support young people’s connections with the Estonian state, to increase the participation of young people in promoting Estonian culture and to contribute to the development of civil society.

Marko Mäetamm Sculpture Becomes Most Popular Spot at British University
A major donor of Aston University in Birmingham has commissioned a sculpture by renowned Estonian artist, Marko Mäetamm, to become Aston’s first major piece of public art to be displayed at its city centre campus in 15 years. The sculpture is made of Finnish granite and features a six-foot pile of books placed on a plinth with the quotation “All the books I should have read, but I’ve been doing other things instead” (2019).

 

Baltic Unity Day at Lakewood Estonian House
Baltic Unity Day was hosted by the Lithuanian community on October 5 at the Lakewood Estonian House this year. Celebrating Baltic Unity Day in New Jersey became a tradition decades ago thanks to the instigation of Priit Parming. Approximately 120 Baltic friends took part.
