Estonian Nature Film Wins Top Prize in Mexico
The Estonian monumental nature film “The Wind Sculpted Land” (“Tuulte tahutud maa”), directed by Joosep Matjus, has won the best feature film award at the Tulum World Environment Film Festival in Mexico.

Over 200 000 Estonian Articles Now on Wikipedia
The Estonian version of the “free knowledge bank” Vikipeedia (Wikipedia) reached 200 000 articles on the evening of August 12th. The article that tipped the scales to the new mark is about the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and the author has deliberately noted “CONGRATULATIONS 200k” in the footnote of its publication.

Järvemetsa Scout and Guide Campfire Lit
The Estonian scout and guide camp at Järvemetsa in Lakewood, New Jersey hoisted its flags on August 10th for its annual week-long event. This year’s camp is called “Lennuk”, which means (air)-plane, but in this case is an homage to Estonian epic folk hero Kalevipoeg’s ship of the same name, of which there is a copy on site.

Successful 52nd Annual Kotkajärve Metsaülikool
The 52 year-old “Forest University” held 220 km north of Toronto, wrapped up a particularly united, fun edition. Over 100 people from as far off as New Zealand, Estonia and the U.S., aged 4 to 87, enjoyed a week of Estonian immersion while taking in lectures, discussions, hikes, canoeing, saunas, campfires and song. The farewell party featured performances by the forest choir, led by Triin Koch, artistic director of this summer’s Tartu Song Festival, folk dancers led by this year’s Dance Festival alumnus Marleen Kedars from Tallinn, and other forms of creative expression.

Third Kadrioru Literature Street Festival Coming
On September 14, (poetess Lydia) Koidula Street in the Kadriorg neighborhood of Tallinn will be open to book-loving pedestrian traffic only for the third consecutive year. Writers will meet readers, there will be a pop-up Mati Unt museum, book launches, music and readings and more.
