Rootsi talud ja Leena jõe sammaskaljud tunnistati maailmapärandiks

UNESCO maailmapärandi komitee lisas maailmapärandi nimekirja 26 uut paika, nende seas pärlipüügiga seotud pärandi Bahreinis, traditsioonilise riisikasvatuse süsteemi Bali saarel ning uhkete maalingutega talumajad Rootsis.

Looduspärandi paikadest on tähelepanuväärsemad Sahara kõrbes asuv 18 järvest koosnev põhjaveetoiteline järvistu Tšaadis, Hiina fos-siilide leiukoht, kus on esindatud varajase kambriumi elustiku jäänused 530 miljonit aastat tagasi ning Leena jõe sammaskaljud Venemaal.

Maailmapärandi konventsiooniga  on ühinenud pea kõik maailma riigid. Selle täitmist kontrollib 21 riigist koosnev komitee ja juba kolmandat aastat kuulub komiteesse ka Eesti. Peterburis toimuval koosolekul juhivad Eesti delegatsiooni professor Mart Kalm kunstiakadeemiast ja Urve Sinijärv keskkonnaministeeriumist.

Maailmapärandi nimekirja arvatakse nii kultuuri- kui ka looduspärand. Ideaalis peegeldab nimekiri maailma ja inimkonna arengulugu. Kõik maailma riigid on äärmiselt huvitatud esindusnimekirjas olemisest ja seetõttu on peagi tuhande paigani jõudva loetelu täiendamine muutunud aasta-aastalt üha keerulisemaks. Igale valikule eelneb hoolikas võrdlus teiste sarnaste paikadega, et nimekirja jõuaks tõesti parim võrdsete seas.

Maailmapärandist ligi neli protsenti on kantud ohustatud pärandi nimekirja – loodusjõududest, nagu üleujutused, tormid jms tulenevate ohtude kõrval kasvab aasta aastalt inimtegevuse laastav mõju. Ärihuvid, kulla- ja söekavandused ohustavad ühtviisi nii Komi metsasid Venemaal, Selousi rahvusparki Tansaanias, kunagise Mapungubwe kuningriigi pärandit Lõuna-Aafrikas kui ka mitmeid teisi. Urve Sinijärve sõnul ongi istungi üheks keerulisemaks küsimuseks Selousi rahvuspargi piirimuutmisettepanek, mis on tehtud uraanikaevanduse avamise eesmärgil. Positiivne otsus võib luua ohtliku pretsedendi kogu konventsiooni jaoks.

Eesti suursaadik UNESCO juures Marten Kokk tõstis esile, kui haavatav on pärand sõjalistes konfliktides. Pärand on oma kultuurilise ja rahvusliku identiteedi tähenduse tõttu sageli teadliku rünnaku objekt. Vaid paar päeva pärast seda, kui komitee oli kandnud Mali riigi palvel sealsed pühamud ohustatud pärandi nimekirja, purustasid islamiäärmuslased Timbuktu mälestised. Koka sõnul peab komitee leidma senisest enam võimalusi osutada kiiret ja praktilist abi sarnastes olukordades.
