World’s Largest Muhu Stocking Exhibit on at ERM

The world’s largest exhibition of traditional stockings from the island of Muhu in currently on display at the Estonian National Museum (ERM) in Tartu, showcasing 70 historical stockings, as well as 84 pairs knitted especially for this exhibition. 

 

 

Tänak and Järveoja Win First World Rally Championship in Estonia

Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja have won their home rally and the inaugural World Rally Championship event held in Southern Estonia.

 

The pair took an early lead on September 5 and did not let up through the next day with a time of 1:59:53.6.

 

This despite a strong challenge mounted by Irish driver and fellow Hyundai teammate Craig Breen and his co-driver Paul Nagle, who were 22.2 seconds behind with a time of 2:00:15.8.

 

 

Haapsalu Railway to Rohuküla Could be Completed by 2026

The Haapsalu railway, which is being built on the old Haapsalu railway track bed, is moving forward, with the next, Turba-Ellamaa section set to be completed by the middle of next year.

 

According to the Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Taavi Aas, the railway to Rohuküla on the west coast could be completed by 2026.

 

It is currently estimated to carry a price tag of up to 100 million euros.

 

 

Mart Sander Wins Best Lead Actor in Madrid

Mart Sander won the Best Lead Actor award at the Madrid International Film Festival for the role he played in his own short film “Behind the Random Denominator”, beating out stars such as Laurence Fishburne, Bruno Ganz, Carlos Bardem and Robert Davi.

 

 

Fourth Kadriorg Literary Street Festival

The fourth annual Literary Street Festival was held on Koidula tänav in the Kadriorg neighborhood of Tallinn on September 5. The aim of the Literary Street Festival is to draw attention to Estonian literature, literary heritage and literary public space.

 

This year, the Kadrioru reading corner was opened across the street from the Anton Hansen Tammsaare Museum.

 

Translator, critic and writer Enn Soosaar is also now commemorated with a memorial bench in Kadrioru Park.
