Bay Area Estonians celebrated Eesti Vabariigi 101. aastapäev on February 23, with an evening of Estonian language theater.
Mai-Liis Bartling of the San Francisco Estonian Society and Andrus Viirg of Enterprise Estonia Silicon Valley, the organizations co-hosting the event, welcomed the crowd. Honorary Consul Richard Horning also offered greetings and elaborated on the recent announcement that the Estonian Foreign Ministry plans to open a consulate in San Francisco later this year, announcing that he will continue to serve in his role as honorary consul for the Silicon Valley area.
As the evening’s main event, actor Sepo Seeman performed the solo show “Eesti mees ja tema poeg” from playwright Peep Pedmanson, which explores traditional Estonian attitudes with a touch of irony and a lot of humor. Afterward, attendees enjoyed a festive reception with Estonian-inspired refreshments, a sing-along led by members of the San Francisco Estonian Community
