Eesti lendorav

41 lendoravLendorav on oravast väiksem, halli värvi näriline. Ta on levinud Euroopa põhjaosas, Siberi metsa- ja metsastepi vööndis.

 

Eestis on säilinud väikesel arvul peamiselt Kirde- ja Edela-Eestis. Lendorav on omapärase välimusega. Tal on suured silmad ning esi- ja tagajäsemete vahel paikneb nahakurd. Suured silmad on talle kasulikud öösel pimedas nägemiseks, sest lendorav on aktiivne peamiselt öösiti.

 

 

Lendorav ei lenda sõna otseses mõttes, vaid liugleb: õhku hüpates tõmbab ta jäsemete vahel oleva nahakurru pingule ja seejärel liugleb kuni paarikümne meetri kaugusele. Lendu juhib ta saba abil. Enne maandumist puule ta pidurdab, painutades saba alla. Pärast puule maandumist jookseb ta kohe teisele poole puud, et võimalike jälitajate eest ära pääseda. Vaenlasi on tal aga palju: nugised, kakud jne.

 

Lendorav elab pea kogu oma elu puu otsas, tulles maapinnale vaid äärmise vajaduse korral. Elupaigana eelistab ta vanade puudega metsa, kus on palju puuõõnsusi, millesse oma pesa teha. Lendorav sööb puude pungi, noori oksi, seemneid jne. Talveks kogub ta endale ka toiduvarusid külmade päevade üleelamiseks.

 

Pojad sünnivad neil mais-juunis ja neid on tavaliselt 2…4. Pojad on paljad ja pimedad. Nägema hakkavad pojad kahe nädala, imemise lõpetavad kuu aja ja iseseisvaks saavad kahe kuu vanuselt. Sigima hakkavad nad järgmisel kevadel. Elavad nad tavaliselt 5…6 aasta vanuseks.

 

Lendorav on Eestis oma leviku piiril ja seetõttu on ta meie aladel kogu aeg haruldane olnud. Eriti haruldaseks on ta aga jäänud selle sajandi teisel poolel, seda peamiselt vanade metsade kadumise tõttu.

 

Lendorav on looduskaitse all.
