Ajalooline Pöide kirik Saaremaal laguneb

Saaremaa keskaegne Pöide kirik on praeguseks nii viletsas seisus, et selle võlve ähvardab kokkuvarisemine, kirjutab Eesti Päevaleht.

Kiriku katusekivid on suures osas purunenud ja sademeid kinni ei pea. Nii ongi kiriku puidust katusekonstruktsioon kohati pehkinud ja seda purevad seenhaigused. Siseruumides vohavad liigniiskuse tõttu rohevetikad ja võlvidelt kukub alla krohvi.

 

Raha pole ligi kaheksa sajandi vanuse pühakoja remontimiseks ei riigil ega ka kohalikul omavalitsusel. Kokku läheks hädavajaliku uue katuse ehitamiseks kiiresti vaja ligi kaheksa miljonit krooni. Väikese eelarvega vallale käib selle rahastamine enam kui üle jõu, parimal juhul jaguks raha kaasfinantseerimiseks.

Pöide vallavanem Jüri Linde ütles, et iidset jumalakoda on vastavalt võimalustele pidevalt kõpitsetud, kuid hoone olukord on väga kehv. „Eks mure olegi, et kui katust korda ei saa ja kiriku võlvid sisse kukuvad, võib selle remont väga kalliks minna,” nentis Linde.

Linde sõnas, et kaks aastat tagasi taotles vald kiriku korrastamiseks raha Norra abivahenditest, ent projekt sai eitava vastuse. Tänavu loodeti toetust saada kultuuriministeeriumilt, kuid majanduskriisi ja eelarvekulude kärpimise tõttu ei tulnud sealtki mitte üht krooni.

Pöide kirik on viimased aastad olnud pühakodade programmi tööde järjekorras, aga vahendite nappus pole võimaldanud uusi restaureerimistöid alustada.

Algsel kujul arvatavalt juba 1230. aastail valminud Pöide Maarja kiriku puhul on tegu kogu Lääne-Eesti ja saarestiku suurima sakraalehitisega. Pühakoja suurimaks väärtuseks on rikkalik raiddekoor, mida peetakse Eesti kõrggootika tippnäiteks.
