To Ensure Its Continued Publication
This weekly newspaper provides its readers with news happening in Estonia and also informs them of local cultural and social events in the USA, such as church services, concerts, and meetings.
All this information will remain as a historical record of the activities of Estonians in America, a print and digital resource for historians and genealogy researchers.
A newspaper is the main bearer of any community’s identity. The passing of the newspaper would break the bonds that keep our Estonian-American communities together. Photos posted online do not replace the weekly information chronicled in the newspaper.
And don’t forget that the weekly Vaba Eesti Sõna is a lifeline of information for elderly Estonians who do not use the internet. These are the people who ventured to set up our organizations, built up the Estonian-American communities to maintain our traditions and preserve our language. They have earned the right to read the news in Estonian in their golden years.
So let us assure that the Estonian-language newspaper survives for a few more years!
