President Kaljulaid at the UN General Assembly
President Kersti Kaljulaid was on a working visit to New York this week to attend the annual UN General Assembly. In addition to bilateral meetings with other heads of state and participation in various debates, the President of the Republic delivered a state address at the General Assembly on September 24. Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu was also in NY attending dozens of meetings during the opening week of the UN General Assembly.

PM Ratas: Everyone Must Cooperate on Combating Climate Change
Prime Minister Jüri Ratas spoke at the World Economic Forum’s High Level Conference on Sustainable Development in New York on the subject of global challenges and the use of digital solutions as well as the need for closer cooperation between countries and businesses in combating climate change.

 

Valuable Ancient Jewelery Discovery in Saaremaa
Experience, intuition and luck led archeologist Marika Mägi to the site of a 1,700-year-old sacrificial burial site in Saaremaa, where among other fascinating findings, a unique gold snake-head necklace was found, which is unique throughout the Baltics, the local island newspaper “Saarte Hääl” wrote.  It will most likely claim the title of the most valuable find to date in Estonia and lead to new interpretations regarding Estonia’s ancient history.

 

Estonian First European to Win US Open Disc Golf Championship
Kristin Tattar, Estonia’s best women’s disc golfer, took home the biggest win of her career in the United States when she was crowned the first European to win the US Open in a recent three day competition.

 

Great Refugee Flight Commemorated on Estonia’s West Coast
Candles were lit in front of a monument made of fieldstones arranged in the shape of a boat in front of the Coastal Swedes’ Museum in Haapsalu, commemorating the tens of thousands of people who fled ahead of the Red Army’s arrival in 1944.
