U.S. to Give up to $1 billion Towards Three Seas Investment Fund
At the Munich Security Conference on February 15, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed the US commitment to the Three Seas Initiative, which Estonia is a member of, and its readiness to allocate up to $1 billion for the financing of infrastructure projects. Estonia will host the summit and a business forum of the Three Seas Initiative in June this year.
Estonia’s Oldest Kõpu Lighthouse is Now Fully LED-Based
In January, Estonia’s oldest Kõpu lighthouse on the west coast of Hiiumaa island was upgraded to LED lighting. Kõpu lighthouse is thought to currently have the brightest LED lighting in the world. It is one of the world’s three oldest navigational markers that has been in constant operation for centuries.
Director Tanel Toom Receives an Oskar
On Valentine’s Day, the Society of Friends of (writers) Tammsaare and Vilde presented the title “Friend of a Classic” for the fifth time. This year’s winner, director Tanel Toom, received Rait Prääts’ sculpture entitled “Oskar”. The movie “Truth and Justice” after A.H.Tammsaare, directed by Tanel Toom, has broken box office records in Estonia and was shortlisted for the best International Feature Film Oscar at the 92nd Academy Awards.
