In the summer of 2016 we had the honour to meet Mrs. Epp-Karike Jürima-Sonin as a participant in our Estonian summer school. Her vibrant personality and positive attitude towards life touched everyone. During the two weeks Epp shared many stories of her life with us and praised our programme in ways we could have never imagined. To honour her contribution and support, the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures decided to create a scholarship in her name.
The main aim of the scholarship is to support learners of Estonian heritage, who have grown up abroad and would like to start or continue learning the language. However, everyone else with a strong interest in Estonian is also welcome to apply. In 2017, two scholarships are offered which cover the tuition fee of the course (430 euros). See what is included in the course fee.
Applicants need to submit a motivation letter (approximately 1 A4 in length) in which they describe their connection to Estonia and why they wish to learn Estonian. The motivation letter can be uploaded with the general application form.
Epp-Karike has kindly also agreed to tell us a little about herself and her life, which we hope will give all Estonians abroad motivation to keep their heritage alive.
