Estonian Government Forms Crisis Commission
The Estonian government has set up a government crisis commission to deal with the COVID-19 virus outbreak and, as an additional measure, has decided to prohibit cruise ships from docking in Tallinn until May 1. Events with more than 100 participants are also being cancelled. In his speech on Thursday morning Prime Minister Jüri Ratas said Estonia had reached a state of emergency and late Thursday the Minister of Education and Research Mailis Reps announced all schools would be closed as of Monday, March 16. There were 27 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Estonia as of March 12.

Estonian Bartender Wins Best Non-Alcoholic Cocktail in NY Restaurant Show
On March 8, Estonian bartender Kristo Tomingas won the prestigious international cocktail competition "Battle of the Modern Bartender", which is part of the annual Inter-national Restaurant and Food Service Show of New York. The non-alcoholic cocktail made with Saaremaa island Lahhentagge brand non-alcoholic gin Flâneur beat out hundreds of other contenders to reach the final and utimately take home the top prize.


Estonian Girl Guide Movement Celebrates 100 Years
The Estonian Guides Association in Estonia, as well as Estonian Guides in Exile are preparing to celebrate 100 years since the first independent district was formed in Tallinn, in March 1920. Estonian Guides in Exile are interested in interviewing people for whom guiding was an important part of their life.
