ERR - Eesti Energia Technology Industries, a subsidiary of state-owned Eesti Energia, is planning to shut down its Narva factory by the end of November, moving production to a similar production facility in Jõhvi.
The move will mean that the current combined staff of the two factories will be downsized from 700 to 620, Postimees reported today.

jaatisemyyjadERR - Statistics Estonia's head analyst Siim Krusell said that the 2012 statistics yearbook, released last week, covers many figures of different importance, but population change is probably the most highlighted.
Krusell said on the Statistics Estonia blog today that population figures were something to be joyful about in 2009 and 2010, with births outstripping deaths in 2010 for the first time in 20 years. But that trend reversed in 2011, and worsened last year, as the difference between births and deaths grew by more than twofold to 1,500.

ainar ruussaar3jpgERR - Although July 2013 has gone into the books without any earth-shaking events, this week marks the 20th anniversary of the culmination of a crisis that seems unthinkable today.
Back then, coup and secession - now concepts seemingly confined to North Africa - didn't seem outside the realm of possibility in an era when Estonia, in the words of journalist Ainar Ruussaar, was "free but not finished."

"It's mystifying, the luck that Estonia has had," Ruussaar said on the July 22 edition of Pressiklubi, a show he hosts on Kuku Raadio. "Just consider that in July a group of armed men were not obeying orders from the central government."

University of Tartu Media Studies Professor Veronika Kalmus told uudised.err.ee on Wednesday that children in eastern and northern Europe use the Internet more widely and thus their chances to stumble on risks are greater.

ERR - The Estonian Ministry of the Environment has passed along to Parliament and technical agencies an environmental impact assessment for a depository for radioactive waste that Russia is planning just across the border in Leningrad oblast.

After Alan Ago Koerv’s article appeared in the VES #22, May 30, 2013 paper, asking for other variations of translation of the “Kas siis selle maa keel....”.  The VES has received some additional translations.
