The Estonian Archives in the United States has been selec-ted to receive the Estonian American National Council’s award for “Organizational Excellence” at EANC’s 60th anniversary gala on September 29, 2012.    The Archives, located in Lakewood, New Jersey, and now also with some collections at the University of Minnesota’s Immigration Research Center, houses books, documents, and other materials about the activities of individuals and Estonian American organizations from 1920 to the present. The non-profit organization is staffed entirely by volunteers. Enda-Mai Michelson-Holland is the current director and will accept the award.

In July 91,983 passengers flew on regular flights of Estonian Air and the number of passengers on regular flights departing from Tallinn increased 78.6% compared with the same period last year.

Jeffrey D. Levine was sworn in as the new United States Ambassador to the Republic of Estonia during a July 24 ceremony in Washington, DC.
Under Secretary of State Patrick F. Kennedy administered the oath of office in the ornate Benjamin Franklin Room at the Department of State. Levine is the eighth U.S. ambassador since the restoration of Estonia’s Independence and re-establishment of full diplomatic ties between the two countries over twenty years ago.

The representatives of the Estonian Embassy in Washington attended on August 8th the burial ceremony of Major Aado Kommendant at Arlington National Cemetery. Deputy Chief of Mission Tanel Sepp laid a wreath on his grave on behalf of the President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves.

 

Ambassador Melissa Wells will receive the Estonian American National Council’s award for “Distinguished Service” at EANC’s 60th anniversary gala on September 29, 2012. Ambassador Wells exemplifies dedication to public service.  Her career includes posts with global responsibilities at the United Nations and five ambassadorships spanning over twenty years.  Born in Tallinn, she became the highest ranking American of Estonian birth or heritage in the U.S. State Department, and concluded her career in Estonia. 

 

Anoli describes make-up as a universal profession, and it’s easy to see why. Her first make-up lessons took place in Larissa, Greece. She studied at the Makeup Designory in Los Angeles, where she also served as the make-up artist on the short film Punching Hitler. After styling such Hollywood notables as Kelis, Pamela Anderson, Jude Law and Hilary Duff, Anoli next found herself in Brussels, Belgium, where she worked as a M.A.C. make-up artist and joined the reality show De Designers.
